Dan Lev Art by Daniel Levinas, Digital Artist.

I grew up struggling with finding a place to fit in. Even within my family I had a hard time finding a space. My mother was the artist of the family and spending time drawing with her was the place where I felt like I was supposed to be.

Being creative always felt right. I tended to loose track of time at the studio drawing, printing, or working on the computer.

This is a feeling that I still carry with me and no matter where life took me I always found my way back to it.

In University I was drawn to printmaking and digital photo manipulation. I studied classic print making techniques.

I started with Intaglio - etching into copper plates - and took to it like quickly. I enjoyed everything about it, the physical work of creating the plate and all the precision needed.

Woodcut and screen printing were the natural next steps for me as four years of print went by in a blink.

I got into the digital work in high school, where the technology was still fairly new I was the first student to make use of the art class computer and scanner.

In University I continued this passion and earned a “Digital Media Certificate”.

It wasn’t until around 8 years after university that art found it’s way back into my life and I was sure that being creative is a big part of who I am.

Now, I find that sketching first and digitizing the drawing creates an effect that I can’t produce drawing directly into the file, I compliment it by drawing digitally into Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

My work is largely dependent on my mindset and I am finding that my methods continue to change and improve as I am always looking for new technology that allows for new effects or new styles to come out.

For me, it's important not to describe my prints, as I want to allow people to be creative and view my images as they wish.
